Outrage: Barefacts student newspaper is no more!

Found out today that Barefact, University of Surrey Students newspaper is no more. This had been the longest running student newspaper in the UK, and something that was, well, part of the furniture. OK, it was crap and no-one ever read it but THATS NOT THE POINT! Memories include a famous article by yours truly complaining about the quality of student entertainment (basically I wanted more 80's music!). Then there was my campaign to become editor, yes EDITOR of the student newspaper as Communications Officer (now I'm a Marketing manager, funny huh!?). I came second, but surely it was my brilliant 'Spice' theme that made all the difference. And lest we forget the 'Rag' issue that Al and I put together - Bare Farts. Totally uncensored, obscene and equally as unread as the original.

You know, thinking about it I never ONCE had a personal in Barefacts. Even though I checked every week, no-one could give a toss about me enough to pop it on a piece of paper and stick it in the BF mailbox. Well have you seen my facebook now HA HA HA HA HA HA. So screw you barefact, maybe you're better off dead (I don't mean that).

anyway, bloody students, layabout kids, they should earn a living...

memories of the pregnancy

Given I have a RUBBISH memory here are some from the pregnancy days.

Will add more when Nanette is here to help!

  • Finding out Nanette was having a ‘baby’. Got home, Nanette shouts down from upstairs “can you get me a glass of water”. Go to fridge, open fridge, poor glass, close fridge, go to stairs “go back and look at the fridge”, go back, look at fridge door, magnetic letters saying ‘You’re the daddy’. Ahhh, i thought, she’s trying to give me a boost for a job interview.. pause.......penny drops....oh my god. Go back up stairs, quivering lip, “are you sure?”, “yes”

  • Announcing to Tony, Mary, Marie, Dad, Jess & Chloe at xMas (and Mum, Kate, Tim on phone). “We have one more present to give you all”. Everyone over the moon!

  • Complications after 11 weeks, go to A&E, both think we are going to lose the baby. All the signs of miscarriage, bleeding, back ache, cramps.... Doctor sends us for a scan. We both try to be positive but inside we both think we have lost the baby. Shaking, feel sick, so nervous, swallowing. Scanner says....”Are there twins in the family?”, “No”, “Well how do you feel about that then”. Speechless, can’t get words out, tears, shock, elation STUNNED. We go out and start telling the entire world. WE HAVE HAVING TWINS

  • More complications for next few weeks, really tough few more visits to A&E and scans but still everything ok.
  • Planning names, Maisy and Hattie if girls. Wilson and Seth if boys. Maisy and Wilson if one of each.

  • Go to Kaiser Chiefs concert, protect Nanette from nutters but rocked it BIG time.

  • Once we find out its twins cancel snowboarding holiday, even though I’d bought Nanette board and clothes, oops

  • Nanette looked even more beautiful pregnant. She never wanted the pregnancy bit, and hated the uncomfortable side. But she was in my opinion incredible as always and seemed to take it in her stride

  • Turning an empty room into a nursery for twins

  • Job stress – worked at the circus of a company Cisilion which was constant stress the whole time through pregnancy. Nanette coped amasingly well given thought i could lose my job at any time.

  • Start buying all the baby stuff, starts getting more and more exciting. Seems so weird going into the nursery and imagining to babies in there – unreal.

  • Nanette worried she won’t be maternal (see below!)

  • Balancing a packet on Nanette tummy watching it wobble about as the babies kicked

  • Watching as both babies go from one side of belly to other

  • Watching scans as both babies are virtually touching each other and playing

  • Going for scans every 4 weeks, then every 2 weeks and Doppler, growth scans and heart beat monitoring every other day!

  • NCT classes, all a bit of a muck about, but scary when leaning how to bath and change a baby (doll). Can’t remember anything they teach you, and worrying about the actual birth, trying not to think about it.

  • Long weekend in Devon, one of the most lovely weekend we have ever had. Made CD with baby songs. ‘I got 2 babes’, ‘Two hearts’, ‘It takes two’, ‘baby love'
  • Yorkshire dales last 36 weeks, last holiday just the two of us. Nanette on some swings looking BIG! lots of stares from old folk at breakfast
